Ashland Turbine Update

Two years ago, Ashland Sawmill began a sustainability project which involved installing a turbine to help limit the amount of electricity purchased to operate the site. Today, bark that is being removed from the logs is burned on site and the steam that is created spins the turbine, making electricity. This green alternative has proven to be well worth the investment. Last year alone, enough energy was produced to service over 1440 average American homes for one year.

Many states, including Maine, consider sustainably harvested biomass to be carbon neutral. JDI's Woodlands Division is proud to be third-party certified to the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C041515) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) standards, making all biomass sustainably harvested.

At J.D. Irving, Limited, we're committed to running our operations as sustainably as possible. Sustainability in the lumber business means thriving and viable forests for generations to come.
