Sawmills wins national pine program

The J.D. Irving, Limited Sawmill Division has won the national program for eastern white pine with The Home Depot Canada. Starting in January of 2023, JDI will be providing lumber to all stores from Newfoundland to British Colombia.

This contract comes not long after the modernization of the Doaktown Sawmill which brought the sawmill and value added centre under the same roof. This $35 million investment has produced one of most advanced sawmills in its class and is where we produce most of our value added products such as fluted board

Eastern white pine is the natural choice where warmth, character and quality are preferred. Everlasting for interior and exterior applications, it has been the traditional choice of craftsmen in New England and Eastern Canada since the 1700s. Used initially as ship masts, its qualities were known for having incredible strength, the ability to grow true and tall and yet be very lightweight. Today the growth qualities are the same and the uses have broadened to interior patterned wainscoting, flooring, moldings, exterior siding, log home construction, crating, packaging, shelving and furniture.

Dixfield Sawmill, located in Western Maine is the secondary site which brings the total annual production of Eastern white pine to 130 million board feet (FBM). Combined, these two sites make JDI the largest producer of Eastern white pine in the world.
