Dixfield Sawmill improves packaging quality for customers with new automatic wrapper
The Dixfield Sawmill in Dixfield, Maine, is continuing its tradition as the world’s largest and most modern eastern white pine sawmill by becoming the first pine board mill in North America to install a lumber shrink wrap system.
The investment will help the mill achieve production growth and enhance packaging quality for customers by wrapping lumber in better packaging faster. The automatic stretch packaging machine seals the lumber on all six sides with an average cycle time of just 45 seconds. This protective packaging then safeguards the lumber from the elements.
Installed by the Dixfield team this summer, the auto wrapper is now operational.

Investments like the Dixfield auto-wrapper are how J.D. Irving, Limited ensures its sawmills continue to be world-class facilities at the forefront of innovation. The company’s modern sawmills use state-of-the-art technology and equipment and are highly optimized.
Since acquiring the Dixfield Sawmill in 1998, Irving Forest Products has invested more than $40 million into the mill. These investments include adding value-added and planer mills, new edgers, back pressure turbines, grade scanners and a new debarker and stacker.
