Quality to Build On
Appearance
Appearance grade is our highest grade of lumber. Appearance grade exceeds the National Lumber Grading Standards and is characterized by limited wane and limited knots. It is sold mainly within the Retail Industry. J.D. Irving produces Appearance grade 2x3, 2x4, 2x6 and 2x8 in both Stud Grade and Dimensional Random Length (10Ft - 16 FT).
1&2
All of our 1&2 products are graded to meet and exceed the National Lumber Grades Authority grading rules. This product has minimal defect on it edge and face. Lumber in this grade category is graded to be used for structural light framing and structural joists. Home construction, renovation and manufactured trusses and joists dominate the use of this lumber.
Stud
J.D. Irving produces 2x3, 2x4 and 2x6 studs. Studs are intended for vertical use in structural framing applications, such as walls in homes. This grade provides a more than adequate nailing edge with minimal defects on the remainder of the piece to ensure adequate strength values for the intended application.

This grade of lumber has more visible defects than 1&2 and can be used in non structural applications. Most commonly used by manufacturing firms. Value can easily be added to this product by chopping, ripping, trimming etc to be used in part or whole for various industrial and component uses.
Economy
The lowest quality of all of our grades. This is a recovery item that can be used in many non structural applications. It is also used by manufacturing firms. Value can easily be added to this product by chopping, ripping, trimming etc to be used in part or whole for various industrial and component uses.
