REDEFINING FORESTRY LEADERSHIP

Erin Miller is making her mark in the traditionally male-dominated forestry sector. She is the Director of Talent Acquisition for the Sawmills and Woodlands Divisions at J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI). With an impressive educational background, she is reshaping the way the company attracts and engages talent.

When she joined JDI just over a year ago as the Director of Talent Acquisition, she was entrusted with the responsibility of devising innovative strategies to address the company's expanding talent requirements. Facing a labor market undergoing significant shifts like shortages and heightened competition, Erin recognized the need to think outside the box to effectively attract top talent.

"The best careers are the ones that challenge you and push you out of your comfort zone," shares Erin.

Drawing from personal experiences, she recalls volunteering for difficult assignments early in her career and demonstrating a relentless drive to succeed. These challenges served as valuable lessons and taught her the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. "No one will show you how to be successful. Instead, you have to believe that you will be successful and not take 'no' for an answer."

Erin has consistently found alternate avenues to achieve her goals. Overcoming obstacles has forged her path to leadership and she acknowledges that being a woman in a leadership role is not without its challenges.

"Being a woman in any leadership role isn't easy, but you have to ask yourself: why not me?"

As she nears completion of her MBA in HR Leadership, Erin is poised to lead the charge in transforming the way companies approach talent recruitment and engagement. She has become a role model for aspiring female leaders, encouraging them to pursue their ambitions with determination.
